An e-commerce website in India usually costs from about ₹15,000 for a template store to several lakh rupees for a custom build, based on published agency prices we checked in October 2026. Running costs such as payment fees, hosting and delivery continue every month, so count those before you decide.
Compare the cost of the first two years, not the cost of the first invoice.
Published price ranges
Quotes differ widely, partly because the word "store" covers very different projects. Here is what Indian studios publish:
- Technox puts the range at about ₹15,000 for a template-based store to ₹10 lakh or more for an enterprise build.
- Noir and Blanco gives ₹25,000 to ₹5,00,000 or more, depending on platform, design, product count and features.
Our own online store package starts at ₹29,999, and includes a product catalogue and cart, UPI, card and cash-on-delivery checkout, WhatsApp order alerts, product SEO and team training. Your final price depends on what you need, and you get it in writing before you pay anything.
What changes the price
The running costs people forget
- Payment gateway fee: commonly around 2% of each online payment, plus taxes. See our payment gateway guide.
- Platform fee: Shopify's India pricing starts at ₹1,499 a month on the Basic plan with yearly billing. WooCommerce's core is free, but you pay for hosting and any paid extensions.
- Hosting and domain: stores need more reliable hosting than a small brochure site.
- Delivery and returns: courier charges, packaging and failed cash-on-delivery orders.
- Photos and product content: often the largest hidden job, especially with many products.
- Upkeep: updates, backups and fixes. See our maintenance cost guide.
A worked example
This example is arithmetic only, not a typical result. Say a store takes ₹1,00,000 a month in online payments on a 2% gateway fee. That is ₹2,000 a month in gateway charges before taxes, or ₹24,000 in a year. Add a platform plan of ₹1,499 a month and you reach ₹41,988 in a year, before hosting extras, apps, delivery or the build itself.
Run the same sum with your own numbers. A store that sells more pays more in percentage fees, and that is often when a custom setup or negotiated rates start to make sense.
Questions to ask before you pay
Common questions
Is a ₹5,000 online store worth it?
It can test an idea, but check what you get: whether there is a monthly fee, whether you own the domain, and whether payments and product editing are really included. Very low quotes often leave these out.
How long does an online store take to build?
Our online stores usually take five to six weeks. A large catalogue or custom connections take longer.
Should I use Shopify or WooCommerce?
It depends on who will run the store and how you want to pay. Our Shopify and WooCommerce comparison covers this in detail.
